Sometimes when you look at some of the general construction in Los Angeles you got to think, “what were they thinking”. Take this house we’re doing a major home remodel on in Malibu.
This house was built up on a hill overlooking the ocean, giving the people living in the home the opportunity for beautiful views of the pacific ocean right form the living room…all day long. So what does the original builder do? They orient the living room to face a wall with a fireplace and block off a million dollar ocean view.
Can you imagine all the sunsets that were missed…all the moon lite nights sitting in the living room after dinner with a glass of wine gazing out at the pacific…I’m telling you, sometimes it’s really hard to understand how some of the general construction in Los Angeles gets off on the wrong foot like this.
But never fear, it’s all fixable. Thanks to the architect extraordinaire, Deborah Teltscher whom we’re working with on this project. She’s redesigned the living room, tearing out the rock fireplace and moving it to the other side of the room. What this simple design suggestion does is re-orient the living room to take advantage of a spectacular ocean view. It will literally transform the look and feel of not only the living room, but the whole house. I’ve done so many of these, but it still always amazes me how the re-design of something can have such impact.
We’re right in the middle of the demolition and have discovered some water damage (start opening up walls and you never know what you will find). So we need to take care of that, then it’s on to the rest of the house. It’s a total home renovation, so stay tuned, we can’t wait to show you the results.
